Members of the fire service make the Memorial Weekend a special time for the families of our fallen heroes. Escorts represent the fire service family and create a lasting impression. The escorts who have accompanied families to weekend events in the past describe it as an unforgettable experience. Families also tell us how much it means to them to have a member of their loved one's department escort them during the Weekend.

Departments of fallen firefighters being honored in 2008 receive first priority in providing an escort for their family.

Escort registration for the 2008 Memorial Weekend is now closed. If you are with a department who has a firefighter being honored this year please contact Jeanne Tobia as soon as possible at (410) 721-8845. To be placed on the mailing list for a 2009 Memorial Weekend Family Escort Registration Form, send an email with your request to jtobia@firehero.org.

You will receive a letter of confirmation later this year. We will provide correspondence and periodic bulletins via the email address you supply during registration.

Available dorm rooms are assigned to escorts on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remember that if you plan to bring friends or family, you will need to make reservations at a local area hotel.

The Foundation will provide on-campus meals on Saturday and Sunday for all escorts. Frederick County fire service groups plan to sponsor an open house at the Emmitsburg firehouse on Friday night. We will provide more information on this event before the Memorial Weekend.

Escort registration will take place on the Emmitsburg campus on Friday evening and Saturday morning. A mandatory orientation is scheduled for Saturday.

Each escort will receive an escort handbook prior to the Memorial Weekend.
