Schedule of Events for Families of Our Fallen Firefighters

Travel Day & Family Registration
If you arrive by plane, train, or bus, local firefighters will meet you and take you to your hotel. This service will be available on Friday for immediate family members only. Foundation staff members and returning family volunteers will be at the hotels to welcome you, register you for the Weekend, and answer any questions you have.

Join us for dinner. Let us welcome you and give you an overview of what to expect during the Weekend, as well as resources available year round.

Family Registration & Morning Activities
If you did not register for the Weekend at your hotel, Registration will be open all day on campus so you can get information and your credentials for admission to all Weekend events and meals.

While you are on campus, you can sign the Remembering Banner, place a rose and light a candle in memory of your fallen firefighter at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Chapel, or take a walk or tour around the beautiful campus.

The family of each fallen firefighter will have the opportunity to decorate a luminaria bag in honor of their fallen firefighter. These will be used in the evening Candlelight Service.

Visit the Foundation Store for mementoes of the Memorial Weekend

Family Day
We will provide bus transportation from the hotel complex to the NETC Campus. Families are encouraged to participate in special sessions during Family Day.

Family Lunch
After the morning activities, you will have time to eat lunch in the Dining Hall before afternoon activities at the NETC.

Red Helmet Ride
After lunch, you can watch the parade of bikers riding in tribute to the fallen firefighters. A brief wreath-laying service will take place at the national monument.

Chapel Vigil
The historic Chapel will be open during the day. Honor Guard members will stand in silent vigil as you place a rose in the symbolic Maltese Cross and light a candle for your loved one.

Afternoon Sessions
Groups are set up by your relationship to the firefighter so fathers meet with fathers, wives with wives, etc. There are groups and activities for elementary, middle, and high school ages. This is your time to share with others in similar situations.

At the end of the afternoon, you and your fire service escorts can relax at a family dinner.
NETC Campus
Candlelight Service
Families describe this beautiful evening service as a highlight of the Weekend. Talented survivors and firefighters provide music while each family lights a candle for their firefighter.

Sea of Blue
When you arrive on campus, members of the fire service will stand at attention in your honor as you pass through the Sea of Blue.
NETC Campus
Memorial Service
This public ceremony is the official national tribute to America's fallen firefighters. It features fire service traditions, including an honor guard and bagpiper procession. During the ceremony, each family receives an American flag. The service concludes with the unveiling of the plaque listing the names of the honored fallen fire heroes.
