During the Weekend, members of the fire service can honor America's bravest and participate in a number of activities. You can pay your respects to America's fallen fire heroes and their survivors in a number of ways.

Honor Guard, Bagpipe Units, and Fire Service Escorts

Honor Guard, Bagpipe Units and fire department members who would like to be Family Escorts must pre-register in order to participate in the Memorial Weekend.

Departments of Fallen Firefighters Being Honored This Year

We recognize that firefighters who lose a fellow firefighter in the line of duty are survivors, too. We want you to be part of the weekend activities.

On Saturday, we will hold small group sessions for firefighter co-workers. These sessions allow you to meet with others who "have been there" and know what it is like.

You have the opportunity to serve as a Fire Service Escort to the family of your fallen firefighter. Fire service escorts accompany families to both the Candlelight and Memorial Services. Those department members not serving as escorts will have reserved seating at a closed circuit broadcast of the Candlelight Service.

Departments of fallen firefighters, escorts, and honor guard/pipe band unit commanders will receive additional information about lodging and scheduled events.

Fire Service Member Attendence at the Candlelight and National Memorial Services

Both the Candlelight Service and National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service are open to the public. The Candlelight begins at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 6, and the Memorial Service begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 7.

Parking is not allowed on campus, so you will have to park at Mount St. Mary’s University along Route 15 and ride the shuttle buses to the campus. Plan to arrive at the parking area at least an hour ahead of time as you will need to go through a security checkpoint on campus.

We look forward to having you with us.
