Earlier this year, we asked our Fire Service Survivors to help us create the 2011 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend logo to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2010 and previous years. This new logo also commemorates the 30th Anniversary of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Many great logos were submitted, and one was selected to be the 2011 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend logo. This logo was submitted by Jesse Gigandet, whose brother-in-law Jeffrey Howell, was honored in 2005.
Jesse, who would have been awarded a package of 2011 Memorial Weekend keepsakes featuring his logo, asked us to share these gifts with Jeffrey's family. He notes, "It was my pleasure putting the time into this for such a terrific cause. The memories of the Weekend events still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. As you know, the service you provide affects so many people, so deeply, and for so many years afterward. Words can't thank all of you enough for all of your efforts to remember the fallen in such a beautiful, giving way."
Congratulations Jesse! What a wonderful tribute to Jeffrey, your family, and to our 2011 families - thank you!
We'd also like to thank all of our survivors who shared their time and talent with us in the 2011 Memorial Weekend logo contest. Your hard work is greatly appreciated!
The 2011 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend will be held October 14 - 16th.
