Congressional Flag Ceremony Honors 144 Fallen Firefighters

On Wednesday, April 19, leaders of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus presented 144 American flags flown over the US Capitol to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. These flags represent each of the firefighters on the 2023 Roll of Honor, which includes 79 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2022 and 65 who died in previous years.

Light Up Red for Fallen Firefighters

As dusk turns to dark during the first week of May, iconic buildings, landmarks, homes and fire departments across the country will glow in respect to the fallen and their families for Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters. This nationwide lighting, sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), leads up to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 6-7, 2023.

41st Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend Will be Held October 8-9, 2022

Due to factors beyond our control, we decided not to change the date of the National Memorial as it had been previously announced. The Memorial Weekend will be held in-person on the grounds of the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

It’s Good to Be Back

Following a year of reduced, postponed, and virtual events brought on by the COVID pandemic, the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend marked its 40th anniversary October 2-3 by returning to an in-person event in Emmitsburg, Maryland, honoring 215 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2020 and 2019 and in previous years.

Last week, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation announced the 40th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend is currently planned to be held in-person on October 2-3, 2021, on the grounds of the National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Due to the global pandemic there continues to be uncertainties, about COVID-19 restrictions, and challenges the pandemic may bring.
