Carson Lee Gosey‚ Sr.‚ 60‚ a volunteer firefighter with the Shiloh-Danieltown-Oakland Volunteer Fire Department‚ died after being struck by a vehicle while assisting at a live-burn training exercise near Rutherfordton on October 24‚ 1998. He was a founding member of two local fire departments and active with scout and church youth groups.
