Ike and I served together at Tampa Fire Department. He was preparing to take his EMT Exam and I was planning on studying with him in the during the afternoon watch the day of the shooting. Earlier that morning I was transferred to another Station to cover for a Firefighter on Annual Leave. In 2007 The Ike Royal Memorial Award was established at the Tallahassee Fire Academy to honor Ike and is a Prestigious award presented to the student who exemplifies the high standards in every category.
