Staying in touch with those we usually see often is challenging right now. It’s normal to miss day-to-day activities like reading books to grandchildren, playing games with friends, or chatting about the day’s activities. Technology is not a replacement for in-person visits, but there are lots of options that allow us to stay connected. Here are a few you might want to try. Let us know if you have other favorites!

Caribu is an app that’s like a virtual playdate, offering books to read, games to play, and video chatting. There is normally a monthly charge, but it is now free until May 24. It’s great for grandparents and grandkids. Time Magazine named it one of the best inventions of 2019.

Houseparty is a free video chat for up to 8 people. What makes it unique is that you can play games with each other while chatting. Play Heads Up (similar to charades), Quick Draw (similar to Pictionary), a trivia game, and more.
