The Board of Directors and staff of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) expresses our deepest condolences on the sudden passing of National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) Chief Executive Officer, Heather Schafer.

Heather joined the NVFC in 1993 and has been instrumental as the voice of the volunteer fire service. As the Executive Director/CEO since 1994, she managed all internal and external operations and played an integral role in developing strategic vision for the organization. Her contributions to the nation’s volunteers will always be remembered and appreciated.

“The loss of our dear friend Heather leaves a big void in our fire service community. Her passion, leadership, and vision for the volunteer fire service will be greatly missed,” said Troy Markel, NFFF Chairman of the Board of Directors.
