Each year, Fire Hero Families receive a flag that carries deep symbolic meaning—flown high above the U.S. Capitol and over the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. These flags are more than fabric and thread. They represent courage, sacrifice, and the unwavering commitment of the firefighters who gave their lives in service to others. On May 4, 2025, during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service, these flags will be presented to the Fire Hero Families as a lasting tribute to their loved one’s service and sacrifice.
In a solemn and heartfelt tradition, a special honor guard detail raises each flag over the Memorial grounds in Emmitsburg, Maryland. With great care and reverence, they fold the flag and prepare it for presentation to the family—ensuring that every movement honors the memory of the firefighter it represents.
This gesture is a powerful reminder that our fallen heroes are never forgotten—and that their families remain forever a part of the Fire Hero Family.
