Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Allyson Butler

Major: Elementary Education
Academic Scholarship Years:
Daughter of
Ally Butler

Allyson is currently enrolled in Ball State University and is working to obtain certification in Elementary Education. This is a change of academic career for Allyson.

She attributes this change to finding her passion teaching as a substitute teacher and working different camps in her area. Allyson is involved in many volunteer opportunities in the Muncie community through her sorority at Pi Bet Phi. Their choice of philanthropy is Read, Lead, Achieve which assists children who are illiterate. She goes to a local elementary school weekly and reads with children for an hour. Allyson most recently served as a Recruitment Counselor assisting new members to find their homes in the sorority.

Trent Richter, President of Layfette Professional Firefighter Local 472 says, “She was in middle school when her father was diagnosed with cancer and only a junior when she found out her mother was fighting cancer as well. Throughout this, she continued to work hard in school and was active with the high school volleyball team while excelling in her studies.”

Allyson’s previous scholarship was made possible with support from
Motorola Solutions Foundation and MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund.
