Losing his father was devastating for Kevin. After his death, Kevin struggled to find his place scholastically and in sports. He continued with sports and volunteered as a mentor with a traveling sports organization training and mentoring young athletes as well as volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
After graduating high school, he applied to and was accepted at Hartwick College but struggled with depression and had to stop volunteering with youth as well as take leave from school in the Fall of 2018 to regroup and deal with depression. Kevin has since enrolled in SUNY Orange Community College on-line courses to ensure his academic standing will allow him to return to Hartwick in the Fall of 2020.
Kevin plans to resume working with youth and share his experiences and let them know sharing your feelings can and will result in healing and success if they are willing to speak up and put the work in.
Fire Commissioner Norman says, “Kevin is a very well mannered, mature young man. He conducts himself with integrity and has deep respect for others.”
