On November 1, 1966, the El Cariso Hotshots were trapped by flames as they worked on a steep hillside in Pacoima Canyon on the Angeles National Forest. Ten members of the crew, including Crewman Joel Hill, perished on the Loop Fire that day. Another two members succumbed from burn injuries in the following days.
Joel Hill was my second cousin and my Mom Lynn Farney’s first cousin. She loved her cousin. I am not a structural fire fighter and think of him often. I wish I could have met him. Rest in Peace
